The slate is mined underground in the "Lotharheil" quarry in Geroldsgrün, Upper Franconia, and transported to Bayreuth for refinement at Holz-Fichtner. From there, the slate is shipped directly to you. That's it! It can be that simple. No Suez Canal, no huge transport ships, no delivery problems, no guilty conscience.

Bavarian slate with 300 years of tradition

The special quality of the slate from the Lotharheil quarry is said to have been recognised as early as 1792/1793 by Alexander von Humbold, who was a mining assessor in the area at the time. In 1857, the Imperial Councillor Lothar Freiherr von Faber acquired the mining rights granted by King Ludwig II. But the slate was too hard for his purposes at the time for stationery production. However, this is precisely what makes slate perfectly suited for use in the home kitchen, living room or restaurant.
